The Torni Chevaliers
Food and wine knighthoods were springing up in Europe after the wars. As the winter of 1949 was reaching its end, the same spirit lead to the founding of “Tornin Ritarit”, the Torni Chevaliers.

The Chevaliers worked on the principles of brotherhood, chivalry and respect, and their actions were to be strong, determined and aimed at supporting Torni. The Chevaliers published a Torni magazine and booklets with basic gastronomic information. Gastronomy and culinary delights were thought to establish strong mutual bonds, and indeed they did.

People started to recognize Torni as the centre of culinarism in Helsinki and all virtually renowned gastronomers of the time were members of the Chevaliers.

The Torni Chevaliers still convene annually to celebrate the society’s anniversary and to confer new members on the society’s founding date, 19th September.
